Around this time last year, Embrace Boston was Unveiling “The Embrace” and the 1965 Freedom Plaza on Boston Common and prepping for a historic moment in Boston. Exactly one year later, we celebrate this incredible anniversary and enter a new chapter in the Embrace Boston story.
We are stepping out on our own from the Boston Foundation. As was always the hope and intention, Embrace has matured into a self-sustaining organization and we will be venturing from TBF in February, moving into our own offices in Downtown Boston, with plans to have spaces in many corners of Boston in the coming years.
TBF’s partnership and support has been critical to our work and our ability to flourish, and our TBF family will remain a valued friend and partner into the future. This step is truly bittersweet, and it is an honor to say that we were launched as part of Boston’s community foundation. The Boston Foundation has a storied history when it comes to launching organizations like ours.
Embrace started life as King Boston and the Boston Foundation incubated us with their organizational capacity, financial support, and many introductions to some of our most important partners. They helped bring The Embrace to the Common. The monument attracted visitors and news from around the world. The visibility has led to our rapid growth and along the way came other initiatives like the Embrace Ideas Festival, our films, our research, and our voice.
As a part of our next steps as a transformational and self-sustaining organization, Embrace is taking all operational and development capacities under our own 501c3 including our own Board of Directors to work with partners that share the value of building a radically more equitable Boston.
This is all in an effort to support what’s next – a National Embrace Center being planned and built in Roxbury, enhanced and actionable reporting on educational, environmental, and health equity issues.
Our hope is that you will continue to support us and become a part of the Embrace Boston family as we head into this wonderful and exciting new chapter.
