The Unveiling of The Embrace Memorial on the historic Boston Common brought together Boston’s thriving arts, culture and political communities with national dignitaries and public figures.

The Embrace honors the legacies of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Coretta Scott King who met and went to school in Boston. Years in the making, the 20-foot-tall, 40-foot-wide sculpture symbolizes the hug Dr. King, Jr. shared with his wife, Coretta, after he won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.

Along with the Kings, some of the key figures from Boston’s own history were lauded as our own heroes of the 1965 Freedom Plaza. The plaza includes the names of 65 of the area’s changemakers who impacted the civil rights movement in Boston.

In addition, we had the chance to come together and celebrate this special occasion with the Embrace Gala. We truly got a chance to enjoy ourselves as a community and in a few cases make new friends. Please enjoy a few photos below.
